Viper was one of the Dragons of Water. For his part in the Dragon's Rebellion - as it is called - Viper was transformed to a jeweled, winged serpent and imprisoned in a large Bottle made of some glass-like substance. The Bottle is about four feet high, and has an opening at the top, just large enough for a human hand to reach in, but too small for Viper to crawl out. The Bottle is apparently indestructible, although few have attempted to break into it.
It is likely that a powerful enchantment preserves both Viper and the Bottle. Although Viper enjoys food, he can survive without it for long periods of time. It is rumoured that there have been attempts to destroy Viper, that have failed and left no trace.
Apart from Viper, the only contents are a few pieces of jewelry and trinkets which have been dropped in at various times. Viper amuses himself by playing with them.
Beware. Viper is reputed to be venomous in every sense of the word.
Venture was unremarkable among the daughters of Crookstaff during her early years. However, about a year after her conversations with Viper she disappeared. Four years later she reappeared with a husband - the Warrior Mage Anvil Cloud - and twin daughters, Dusk and Dawn.
During her absence the House maintained that she had been sent away to an outpost on another Sphere. There were rumours of an affair with a husband's cousin, which would explain such an assignment. However there were other rumours - that the House was secretly searching the Spheres for her - and even that the Elders were ignorant of the means of her departure from Roundwander.
